Darren Smyth

Darren Smyth is a UK and European Patent Attorney, and partner in the intellectual property law firm EIP. He is head of EIP Elements, the chemistry practice group at EIP. Darren obtained his undergraduate degree in chemistry and DPhil in synthetic organic chemistry from the University of Oxford. He then did a post-doc in Japan at the Tokyo Institute of Technology before entering the patent profession in 1998.
After five years blogging for the intellectual property law blog the IPKat, Darren now blogs as the IP Alchemist, and is on the editorial board of the Journal of Intellectual Property Law & Practice. His professional practice is mostly focused on patents and registered designs, but he writes on a wide variety of issues related to intellectual property.
